History On Holland Lops

Tan, De Cock was an admirer of  both the Netherland Dwarf and French Lop, but the thought was that the French Lop was handicapped by its large size. In the winter of 1949-50 he got a French Lop buck ( which is a boy, a doe is a girl) and bred him to a white Dwarf. He failed to get any babies. So he tried the other way and got 6 babies. Then he bred a doe to a English Lop buck and producing 5 young one doe had lopped ear carriage, 2 were normal and the others were half-lopped. De Cock tried breeding the lopped ear one and got no such luck. He bred one of the half-lopped one to a buck from the first litter and he got the HOLLAND LOP!

In 1979 the A.R.B.A. Accepted the Holland lops as a Breed.
